Siedentop, Daryl
- Abstract
The article discusses junior sports and what could be done to improve them in New Zealand. Sport psychologist Mary Duquin's idea of sado-aesceticism describes the pressures placed on athletes by parents and coaches. It is noted that a junior sports program with educational objectives can lead to an improved program. The author believes that the varsity sports programs in U.S. high schools are losing touch with the educational and health goals of school sports.
