- Title
Extrapair Paternity and Maternity in the Three-Toed Woodpecker, Picoides tridactylus: Insights from Microsatellite-Based Parentage Analysis.
- Abstract
The article presents a study related to extrapair maternity and paternity in the three-toed woodpecker, picoides tridactylus. Microsatellite markers were used to determine genetic parentage, quasi-parasitism, and the prevalence of extrapair paternity, in southern Finland. The findings of genetic assignment tests assured that monogamous parentage characterized the majority of broods. The study comprises of DNA extraction, microstaellite genotyping and molecular sexing, parentage analysis, and ethics statement.
