- Abstract
The article presents opinions on how Doctor of Philosophy degree students can establish a successful academic scientific career. It references a roundtable discussion with David Roth, chairman of the department of pathology at New York University, at the fourth annual Rockefeller University postdoctoral retreat in 2010. A discussion on the issue of sustainability in a scientific career is presented. Other topics discussed include the emerging trend in translational research and collaborative science, and the need for postdoctoral students to be involved in reviewing papers and writing grants.
