- Abstract
The article presents a case study of an isolated Listeria monocytogenes from the lungs, blood and liver of a 5-week-old American Quarter Horse filly, which has ataxia, lethargy, and seizure activity. The foal had intermittent diarrhea since birth and had responded to gastrointestinal probiotics. The foal was euthanized and its postmortem histopathologic examination shows severe hepatitis. The article discusses the presence of L. monocytogenes in the foal's organs as a virulent strain.
