- Abstract
The Faculty of Social Sciences was included in the group of three faculties which were the first to implement the Bologna reform of study programmes. The Faculty switched to the new study system in the 2007/2008 academic year. Already when preparing for the study programme reform a dilemma emerged concerning what to do with the physical education course which had previously been a non-assessed compulsory course in the first and second years of study. Despite the negative standpoint of the management of the University of Ljubljana and its opposition to re-introducing the physical education course in the renewed study programme curricula, the Faculty of Social Sciences maintained that the course should be preserved. Namely, the Bologna reform establishes a wider selection of general-education courses, therefore allowing the physical education course to be included among elective courses which, of course, must be adjusted accordingly (lectures, practical sessions, examination, assessment). The opinion prevailed that such a course broadens the general knowledge and skills of students, contributes to their broad-mindedness, indirectly improves their quality of life and boosts their professional work in the future.
