- Abstract
The shipping channels of the seaport of Arkhangelsk, located in the mouth area of the Northern Dvina River, have a significant impact on natural processes occurring in its water area. The largest of these are the shipping channels, which are regularly dredged. In turn, the water area of the channels is exposed to sedimentation. The water area of the Mudyug towers channelis considered in this work, is exposed to the largest sediment volumes during storms. To estimate storm sediments, we obtained the statistical dependences of the volumes of transported sediments with the energy characteristics of storms based on factual material. It was found that the relationship between the storm sediment volumes and energy dependences of the storm (average speed, duration, wind direction) is linear, with an average correlation coefficient for the entire channel of 0.94. The efficiency of forecasting the storm sediment volumes is confirmed by the values of the NSE criteria (0.89) and the forecast efficiency S/σ (0.31) on average for the entire channel. The sediment volumes, calculated according to the proposed methodology, exceed the actual ones by 19% on average, which is acceptable for planning dredging and administrative decision making.
