- Title
Into and Out of Québec: The Transformation of Migrant Cultural Identity in Canuck and La dot de Sara.
- Authors
McEwan, Eileen
- Abstract
This article focuses on contemporary Francophone authors who have moved to Québec and French-Canadian authors who left Québec to live in New England at the beginning of the twentieth century. The analysis concentrates on two texts: Canuck by Camille Lessard-Bissonnette and La dot de Sara by Marie-Célie Agnant, and argues that the questions of integration and identity formation are similar for both works, even though they are moving in opposite directions. The article concludes with an analysis of (non-)successful strategies of survivance and discusses how contemporary Francophone migrant literature allows for flexibility of the French language that has ultimately protected it from assimilation within an Anglophone nation.
