- Abstract
The article presents a poetry criticism of the works of the French language poets Gaston Miron, Aimé Césaire and Saint-John Perse. Themes that are explored include the French language, racial and ethnic identity, and the idea of "America" to these poets. Perse is compared to the French poet Victor Hugo, the appreciation that Gaston Miron had for the American poet Walt Whitman is mentioned, and the ways that identity and the négritude movement were important for Césaire is also discussed.
