- Abstract
A biography of aviator John Joseph Gilmore is presented. He was born on June 22, 1900 in Belfast, Ireland and practiced various professions including building aircraft engines. In 1923 he was arrested while assisting in the escape of a wounded Irish Republican Army (IRA) prisoner. He joined the Irish Air Corps as an aircraft engineer in 1929 and later joined the firm Imperial Airways. Details on his inventions and on his posthumous receipt of the British honor known as Member, Order of the British Empire (MBE) are presented.
