- Abstract
The article discusses the history of Moravian Brethren in Sweden since the early eighteenth century. The author draws on information about the Moravian societies in the cities of Stockholm, Sweden, Göteborg, Sweden, Uddevalla, Sweden, and Karlskrona, Sweden. Issues discussed include the construction of Moravian meetinghouses, the social status of members, and particularly the role of music as an expression of Moravian religious identity, as illustrated, for example, in the works of amateur composers Heinrich Gerner, Johan Georg Lotscher, and Gustaf Mankell.
