The article offers information on the Australian National human rights institutions (NHRI) that are independent statutory bodies aimed to monitor human rights in that jurisdiction. Topics discussed include establishment of the Australian Human Rights Commission, global spread of NHRI particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, and the Australian Human Rights Commission Act 1986.
