- Abstract
The article reports on the decision of the Library of Congress to allow film and media studies professors in the U.S. to break encryption on digital video discs (DVD) for classroom use. Such exemptions will remain in effect from November 27, 2006 to October 27, 2009. Certain classes of works that will not be subject to the prohibition under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) include computer programs protected by dongles, computer firmware, and sound recordings in compact disc format.
