- Abstract
This section offers precious stones news briefs. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Laboratory examined a 28.65 carat brownish yellowish orange emerald-cut diamond and found that the diamond was subjected to high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) treatment for it to achieve its color. GIA identified a 13.25 grams near-colorless piece of rough as a halite, which is considered significant breakthrough as the stone provided little crystallographic information. A 1.35 carat black submetallic round was identified by GIA as synthetic moissanite.
