- Abstract
The article presents information on the chromium/vanadium green spodumene from Afghanistan. Spodumene is a clinopyroxene which derived its name from the Greek spodumenos in reference to the gray/ash-colored, non-gem material that has been mined commercially as a source of lithium ore. Common colors for gem-quality spodumene are pink-to-lilac, pale violet-blue, pale green and colorless. Dudley Blauwett and Herb Obodda sent samples of green spodumene. Examination of samples showed properties which are similar to those reported for spodumene by J. W. Anthony et al. No noticeable degradation from green to yellow-green were seen on some of the samples.
