- Authors
Dale, Laura L.; Breeding, Christopher M.
- Abstract
The article discusses an unsuccessful attempt at diamond deception. A case of fraud in the jewelry industry was revealed when the West Coast laboratory of the Gemological Institute of America received a "D color, IF clarity" diamond for an update service along with a photocopy of what appeared to Gemological Institute of America report. The stone matched the accompanying report in most aspects. When the stone was sent for advanced testing, it was revealed that it had been treated by high pressure and high temperature to change its color. However, the report copy submitted with the stone did not mention the presence of any treatment.
