- Abstract
The monastic Rule of Isidoro of Seville had as its main objective to retrieve and compile the monastic rules that, according to the Sevillian bishop's views, were abandoned into forgetfulness. The historic moment Baetica was going through during the first quarter of the seventh century must be taken into account: military confrontations with the Bizantine forces, the conquest of territories and episcopal disputes for the control of the area. We thus suggest, in the present study, that another reason for the monastic Rule of Isodoro of Seville to be written down was in order to establish precise episcopal limits between the episcopal dioceses of Astigi and Corduba.
