- Abstract
The author examines the values inherent in music created for younger children in the West in the late 20th century. The history of children's music from the 1950s to 1980s is provided, with emphasis on the stylistic shifts from folk to pop. The author determines the technical and socio-cultural differences between children's folk and pop. The main points of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) rules for advertising in children's television programming are discussed.
