- Abstract
This study examined whether the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory- Adolescent version (MMPI-A) can identify students with emotional disturbance (ED). Eight scales of the MMPI-A were selected because they were associated with mental health issues (i.e., hypochondriasis, schizophrenia, hysteria, and low self-esteem). The quantitative research study was conducted with three samples of secondary students (normal, identified with ED, and hospitalized). Results indicated that scales for Schizophrenia, Hysteria, Adolescent-low self-esteem, Adolescent-school problems, and Immaturity are statistically significant in differentiating among these three groups. Implications for mental health practice and future research are discussed.
