- Title
Does lubricant adversely affect the results of conventional cervical cytology?
- Authors
Eskes, Christy
- Abstract
The article examines the issue of whether the use of lubricant on a vaginal speculum adversely affects results of cervical cytology done with conventional slide preparation as compared with water alone. It cites studies indicating that a water-based lubricant does not adversely affect conventional Pap smear results and can be used in small amounts when placed directly on a vaginal speculum. However, there is inadequate evidence of improvement in patient comfort.
