The article examines studying and teaching the Moon's surface. Particular attention is given to craters, the law of superposition, which is used to determine geologic history, and stratigraphy, or the study of rock layers. Information is provided on a lesson activity which asks students to use observations and inferences to interpret images of the Moon's features.
