- Abstract
The article discusses the ways to introduce new concepts to the children in the music classes through manipulatives and icons that is by physical and visual engagement in hands-on experiences. Topics included are psychologist Jean Piaget's study on development of children from interaction with objects, modes of representation proposed by psychologist Jerome Bruner, and composer Zoltán Kodály's approach for a child's intellect to transform from overt actions to mental operations.
