A literary criticism is offered for the 1895 Irish play "The Importance of Being Earnest," by Oscar Wilde. An overview of the play's depiction of power in interpersonal relations, including in regard to temporary power, empowerment, the power of transformation and the relationship between freedom and power, is provided.
