- Title
IS MORE ANTITRUST THE ANSWER TO WEALTH INEQUALITY?
- Authors
CRANE, DANIEL A.
- Abstract
The article examines whether antitrust enforcement is an answer to wealth inequality in the U.S. It highlights a panel of economists Joseph Stiglitz and Paul Krugman, former labor secretary Robert Reich and Oxford economist Anthony Atkinson. They believe that weak enforcement of antitrust laws has permitted the anticompetitive mergers, monopolistic conduct and other exclusionary and collusive behavior. It cites studies showing a monopoly wage premium for unionized and non-unionized workers.
