- Title
FAREWELL TO THE RED FLAG: SOME LESSONS OF EASTERN EUROPE'S REVOLUTION FOR THE WEST.
- Authors
Johnson, Nevil
- Abstract
A year ago the author was looking back to 1789 and the French Revolution. Barely had the fireworks faded in the Parisian sky when another process of revolution began to unfold in Eastern Europe, heralding what in the future may well be seen as the most momentous changes of the twentieth century, momentous not so much for what they initiate as for what they terminate. The Eastern European countries, including the Soviet Union, are still in the midst of a phase of upheaval and the radical reshaping of their societies. The chances of Romania and Bulgaria moving successfully in the same direction look far more doubtful, whilst Yugoslavia, lying on the edge of the main zone of upheaval, faces an uncertain future.
