The article explores the history of controversial investigations conducted by special constituted national investigative commissions in the U.S. These intensive investigations include the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks upon the U.S. investigation of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the Roberts Commission investigation of the Pearl Harbor attack, and the Warren Commission investigation of the former President John F. Kennedy assassination. It outlines the subject-matter-specific nature and essential powers of special national investigative commissions.
