- Abstract
Cultural gerontology deals with the cultural shaping of old age and considers aging as a sociocultural construction. It examines self-perceptions and perceptions of old age by others, and emphasizes the competence of older people. Cultural gerontology emphasizes the importance of cultural expectations and roles for personality changes in later life. It also examines literary and fictional representations of aging. In this issue, the connection between advanced age and increased vulnerability is discussed and viewed from a cultural gerontological perspective. Various aspects of vulnerability in older people are examined, including the significance of narratives, the experiences of older migrants, and the effects of clothing on the feeling of attractiveness and vulnerability.
