- Abstract
Introduction and Objective. The aim of the study is an attempt to answer the question whether the introduction of e-health services in Poland leads to the elimination of barriers related to the dysfunctional health care system, or to the secondary exclusion of seniors. The discussed issues include the accessibility of services provided under the e-health and telemedicine system and the needs of the elderly in this area. Review methods. The article was based on a literature review conducted in 11 scientific databases using the following key words: ehealth, e-health, digital health, telemedicine, telehealth and Poland, Polish; limited to the period 2011-2021, and the analysis of legal acts, reports and statistics provided by public institutions (including the Ministry of Health, e-Health Center, ezdrowie.gov.pl portal). Brief description of the state of knowledge. Among the data provided by public institutions, there is no exhaustive information allowing the determination of the age profile of e-health service users. The preferences of older people in the use of e-health and telemedicine can be concluded on the basis of the results of surveys. According to L. Buliński and A. Błachnio (2017), 40% of seniors are ready to use technological innovations in health services. Summary. Data on the use of e-health and telemedicine services by the elderly are fragmentary and scattered. Moreover, research on seniors' needs in this regard is partly based on unrepresentative samples. Although e-health and telemedicine have the potential to compensate for health inequalities and different levels of health care functionality, it should be emphasized that the Polish e-health system is still under development.
