- Abstract
The article presents a study which aims to calibrate the Bedfold Movement Detector (BMD) magnetic induction system. It explains that this system is being used to measure bedload movement in gravel-bed rivers based on a sensor which creates signals upon enhancing its magnetic field through a passing particle. In this study, rotating platter and flume experiments were conducted to create predictive models of particle size based on signal response. Results shows that the relations between signal variables and passing objective characteristics are essentially empirical. Based on the results, it concludes that the signals recorded from BMD sensor can be related to particle volume and size. The identified limitations of the sensor as well as suggestions to improve the system are also offered.
