- Abstract
The article discusses the important role played by Indigenous tribes in advancing the economy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Also cited are how the U.S. federal government pursued the enactment of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act of 1975 and the Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978 to encourage tribal self-determination, and the passage of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) in 1988 to provide restricted gaming within the tribes' jurisdictional areas.
