- Abstract
Latin language has been in the center of educational programs of European schools, owing to the extraordinary role it had until the 600-s. Then, with the start of the Enlightenment period, its role began to fall, consequently, it lost the place it had occupied until then. Nowadays, Latin language does not have the importance of the past nevertheless, its presence in the curriculum of young generations' education is quite justifiable. In this newly created context, the methodologies of Latin language teaching have changed and should continue to change. New teaching methodologies, learning objectives and pedagogical means should be defined. In this article, we will focus on one of the pedagogical means, particularly translation, which is considered as of great importance to the teaching of Latin language. We will present some arguments about the great contribution, translation brings to the education of the student, as well as the necessity that the translation and the comprehension of the text ought to be included as one of the didactic objectives of Latin language class. Then, we will continue with a number of suggestions for a more accurate approach to translation. We hope, this contribution will be to some extent helpful to all the lecturers of Latin language.
