UNMASKING CHINESE BUSINESS ENTERPRISES: USING INFORMATION DISCLOSURE LAWS TO ENHANCE PUBLIC PARTICIPATION IN CORPORATE ENVIRONMENTAL DECISION MAKING.
- Authors
Riley, Timothy; Huiyan, Cai
- Abstract
The article argues that the state of corporate disclosure laws and regulations in China is insufficient to allow the public access to environmental information. It also looks at the role of domestic enterprises in the country's economic growth and the resultant environmental and public health concerns. Professor Wanxin Li said the government has promulgated environmental laws but the lack of transparency and public involvement has hindered their effectiveness. The failure of the Environmental Performance Information Disclosure (EPID) shows a systemic problem in the country's social-industrial-legal complex.
