- Abstract
The article provides information on a study which examined the musculoskeletal hindlimb anatomy of the alligatorid Caiman (C.) latirostris Daudin, which is endemic to the tropical and subtropical regions of South America. Differences between C. latirostris and Alligator (A.) mississippiensis have also been observed, such as the number and extent of muscle heads present within crocodilians, as well as the attachment sites. The most important muscle group acting on the hip and femorotibial extension in C. latirostris are the muscle (Mm.) iliotibiales. In addition, the M. caudofemoralis brevis (CFB) originates on the ilium and caudal vertebrae, excluding sacral vertebrae, in C. latirostris.
