- Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine poetry perception of Şeyhi who is accepted as one of the important names of 15th century classical Turkish poetry, from comments, evaluations and explanations he has made about his own poetry. In this century when classical Turkish poetry kept improving and technical problems, primarily aruz prosody is considerably overcome, it is quite important the way poet regards his poetry and the meanings he attributed. Şeyhi partly mentions basic conditions required as necessary for poetry, similes he has done for poetry, basic characteristics and subjects of his poem in his divan. For example Şeyhi attributes specific means to poetry; it should be read from soul, it should be the translator of soul, tell about the sorrows, explain beauties, remove sadness away from soul, improve affection, explain wine of unification, bring tranquility to soul, be short and sweet and favorable, bring enthusiasm to assembly. At the same time, the poet regards a good poem a permissible magic, a valuable pearl, honey and candy. According to Şeyhi, there is no room for rumor and empty words in poetry. Poet is a means for speaking with the imagination of beloved one. Love, spring, beauty of the beloved and beauty are described in the poetry. The poetry which describes qualification of the beloved one is valuable. These thoughts of important poet who has the kindness of making comments in the early period of Classical Turkish poetry are valuable in focusing on the beginning period of poetics of Classical Turkish poetry.
