- Abstract
The fact that modern life is technology-oriented and complex leads to the emergence of complex problems. One of the most important 21st century skills to deal with and overcome these challenges is computational thinking. This study investigated the points on which the theory of computational literacy proposed by Andrea diSessa is based on and examined its relationship with computational thinking. When the literature is analysed, it is seen that the boundaries between the concepts of computational thinking and computational literacy are not clearly drawn. For this reason, within the scope of the study, firstly, the development of the concept of computational thinking was given and its sub-dimensions were elaborated within the approaches of various researchers. Then, the boundaries between computational thinking and computational literacy were emphasised and the similarities and differences between them were explained in terms of their characteristics. Finally, the main outlines of the theory of computational literacy were discussed and the studies in the literature of the last 5 years based on this theory were analysed. As a result, the study discussed whether computational thinking can be accepted as a literacy.
