- Title
Los amigos de Espartero. La construcción de la red de los ayacuchos.
- Authors
Pérez Núñez, Javier
- Abstract
This study addresses a group of chiefly military ayacuchos who gathered around General Espartero. Through their participation in the wars of independence in Latin America and the Carlist War in Spain, they forged a strong network of relationships. Espartero became the regent of Spanish following the triumph of a progressive liberal revolution in 1840, which, in turn, allowed these men to achieve key positions in government. Unable to leave behind their ingrained military culture, the members of this network imported military practices into the political and administrative sphere, ruling Spain as «national encampment ».
