Radio frequency (RF) energy for drying sized yarns of 50/50 polyester/cotton was compared with conventional cylinder drying. Efficiency and effectiveness of the RF applicator are discussed and the cost differences between the two systems are evaluated. Presently the cost of RF drying is higher than steam but benefits offered by RF energy may offset its higher energy and capital investment costs.
