- Abstract
The article discusses the expansion of the University Pennsylvania (Penn) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the mid-20th century as a means to explore the ways in which U.S. private universities and cities collaborated on urban renewal and planning during this period. Also addressed are the ways in which such partnerships influenced Section 112 of the 1959 U.S. Federal Housing Act. Other topics discussed include Penn's pedestrian-friendly campus and urban blight.
