- Abstract
Modernity is the outcome of modernization and refers to the entire lifestyle and philosophy that encompasses Western values. In this sense, the West is defined as an idealized goal to be reached, and the society and people who reach this goal are called "modern society" and "modern people". While modernization is a tool for some societies, it has been a goal for others. The modernization process for Türkiye can be summarized as a process that starts as a tool and then turns into a goal. For this reason, we can name Turkish Modernization as "emulation-based modernization". In this context, the movie "Bir İçim Su", shot in 1964, has been accepted as a source reflecting the Turkish modernization process. In this direction, it was aimed to reveal how modernity was reflected in Turkish cinema. By watching the movie "Bir İçim Su", the modernity reflected in the movie was examined using the content analysis method in a total of 4 categories, based on the appearances of the main characters, their living spaces and entertainment styles, and the secularism-religion approaches in the movie. As a result of the research, it has been understood that rich girl-poor boy love (economic class difference), men's and women's clothes defined as modern, elements that can be considered as symbols of modernity in living spaces, forms of entertainment specific to modern life, criticism of secularism-religion, and traditional-modern conflict are reflected on the big screen.
