- Abstract
The article presents the fate of individual members of the nobility who still lived in Slovenia before and during the Second World War with concrete examples. Most nobles rejected Nazi ideology and were therefore considered unreliable by the Nazi authorities. Some of them even supported the resistance movement. Despite that, all members of the former nobility were declared Germans or "Volksdeutscher" after the war. Those who did not withdraw from Slovenia in good time were imprisoned in assembly camps. They either died there due to di fficult living conditions or they were executed, and the survivors were later expelled from the Slovene territory. All their (former noble) property was confiscated and nationalized. The post-war period thus represents a decisive moment in Slovene history, when the last remnants ofthe former nobility, who were part ofthis territory since the high Middle Ages, were in one way or another removed from the Slovene territory.
