THE SEPARATION OF THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR ACTS IN SCOTUS AND OCKHAM.
- Authors
Osborne Jr, Thomas M.
- Abstract
The article discusses the differences in the views of theologian John Duns Scotus and English Franciscan scholastic philosopher William of Ockham on the separation of the exterior and interior acts. The manner in which Scotus makes a comparative division between the interior and exterior acts is analyzed. Ockham's rejection of the position of Scotus on the subject is explored. A background of the terminology which 13th-century thinkers develop in their analysis of the human act is also discussed.
