- Title
Lipid multilayers: Domains stack up.
- Authors
Bechinger, Burkhard
- Abstract
The article focuses on a research conducted by Atul Parikh and colleagues which says that lipid bilayers with phase-separated domains display interlayer order. It mentions that by phase separation lipid membranes consisting of sphingomyelin, cholesterol and unsaturated phospholipids separate into coexisting domains. It states that the ordered arrangement is stabilized by the difference in hydrogen bonding of the water molecules between bilayers.
