- Title
EVALUATING THE APPLICATION OF THE NATIONAL STOLEN PROPERTY ACT TO ART TRAFFICKING CASES.
- Authors
Green, Graham
- Abstract
The article examines the effectiveness of applying the U.S. National Stolen Property Act to cases involving cultural property and art trafficking. Archaeologist Clemency Coggins explains the danger posed by the illicit art trade including the loss of historical and archaeological data and a threat to modern national identity. The goals of a legitimate art trade include the preservation of site-specific monuments. The act criminalizes the importation and interstate transport of goods with a value of $5,000 or more.
