- Abstract
The article presents a historical analysis of the role of economic theory in the quest for economic growth and development in Latin America. Economic historian Walt Whitman Rostow and the economic developmentalist theories constructed a grand model of economic development which formed a theory that all societies move through the same specific stages of economic development. The works of Raul Prebisch and structuralist theories were used as an attempt to achieve economic growth and development.
