- Abstract
The article presents information on the theft of Leonardo da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" painting from the Louvre Museum in Paris, France, on August 21, 1911. The missing painting was discovered in Italy two years later, and it was brought back to France January 1914, and reintegrated into the Louvre's collection. It is stated that within France's art world, the disappearance of the masterpiece from the Louvre showed increasing ideological conflicts.
