Altruism and the Separateness of Persons.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article examines the support derived by the concept of altruism from personal identity theory. It also draws a comparison between the theory of personal identity and altruism. Several contemporary philosophers claim that altruism receives an independent support from reflection on the nature of personal identity. The author believes that the purest case of altruism extends concern for another individual. In such case, people value others through their sense of humanity and not by a selfish intention of getting something back.
