- Title
UNDERSTANDING GOVERNMENT IN SOCIETY: WE SEE THE TREES, BUT COULD WE SEE THE FOREST?
- Authors
Raadschelders, Jos C. N.
- Abstract
The primary concern of this article is that the understanding of government in society is severely limited as a consequence of compartmentalization of knowledge, organizational differentiation, and societal fragmentation. The author advocates integration of knowledge about government through differentiated integration, preferably at the level of the social sciences. Though desired by some, epistemological unity of knowledge is impossible in the social sciences. Improving the understanding of government in society is important for the quality of decision making itself as well as for the quality of public judgment.
