- Title
Why there is(n’t) wh-movement in there-constructions.

- Abstract
The article discusses the there-construction in the English language. A. Moro argues that the English existential construction is a type of inverse copular construction with there being a dummy predicate that originates in a small clause structure. One discrepancy in terms of wh-movement resulted from the extraction of the post-verbal dummy predicate (DP). This type of extraction is ungrammatical with the inverse copular construction and locative inversion. According to Moro, extractions of the postverbal DP in the inverse copular structure are generally ungrammatical because the extraction of the postverbal DP would need to pass via some escape hatch.
