- Abstract
This article reports a case of extensive tinea corporis caused by Trichophyton indotineae, a new species of dermatophyte that has been identified as causing antifungal-resistant dermatophytosis. The case involves a 17-year-old girl from Bangladesh who presented with erythematous and desquamative itchy plaques affecting most of her body surface. The initial treatment with terbinafine was ineffective, but the patient showed a marked improvement after switching to itraconazole. Trichophyton indotineae has been found to have high rates of terbinafine resistance, and while itraconazole is commonly used to treat this condition, responses to itraconazole can vary. This is the first reported case of tinea corporis caused by Trichophyton indotineae in Spain, and it is expected that more cases will occur in the future.
