- Authors
Hijzen, Alexander; Swaim, Paul
- Abstract
This article discusses the implications of offshoring for industry employment while explicitly accounting for the scale and technology effects of offshoring. It analyzes the effects of offshoring on employment using industry-level data for 17 high income Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries. The findings of the study shows that offshoring has a slight positive effect or no effect on sectoral employment. Moreover, intra-industry offshoring reduces the labor intensity of production, but does not affect overall industry employment.
