The article focuses on the history of the West Indian trade in the Grand Turk Island, Turks and Caicos Island. Issues concerning the enslavement of African workers to produce the commodities for the transatlantic trade are highlighted. The production of salt in the region is described since the compound is essential in the preservation of meat and fish.
